3 Redneck Tenors

Last night we had the pleasure of seeing the Three Redneck Tenors at the Americana Theatre in Branson.  What fun!  Of course, the big secret about the Three Redneck Tenors are that there are not three tenors at all but two tenors and one baritone.  Also they are not really rednecks but have classical and professional training.  This is abundantly obvious when they sing songs like La Danza, La Donna e Mobile, Figaro and Nessun Dorma.  And the songs are so beautiful.

Interspersed with these tasty and meaty selections are songs like Green Acres, YMCA,  Hound Dog, , You Light Up My Life, Lone Prairie and many others.

The night we attended "Billy Joe" was played by Matthew Lord a wonderful tenor, graduate of Julliard and a very funny comedian.  Blake Davidson played "Billy Billee".  He is a Baritone with experience on Broadway.  Ted Thomas played "Billy Bob" and has sung at Carnegie Hall and performed with The New York City Opera.

The bass is Dinny Mc Guire as the Colonel who is patterned after The Colonel who managed Elvis Presley. 

The boys who are managed by the Colonel begin to work their way through various singing venues.  Beginning in Paris (Texas, that is) they get to work at a Livestock Auction, a Disco and Gun Shop, The Mudcat Saloon and Salon, Club Viper, a Masonic Lodge & Catfish Farm and Michelangelo's Steak and Chop House.

After the intermission they get to sing some of their best songs, finally ending with Nessun Dorma that had people gasping for breath and bringing tears to the eye.

It was a great evening and we fully recommend this show for outstanding music and many laughs along the way.

THE TEXAS TENORS

The Texas Tenors are playing at the Starlite Theatre in Branson.  The Texas Tenors came from Houston, Texas and are made up of John HaganMarcus Collins and J.C. Fisher.  They were winners of the No. 1 Cocal Group on the popular television show "America's Got Talent."  Since winning that honor they have been putting on shows and now have well over 400 shows under their collective cowboy belts.

The show was enjoyable and Janene and I would recommend it highly.

NORMA JEAN'S COWBOY CHURCH.

Norma Jean is there.  But cowboy it ain't.  It might be better named Norma Jean's Old Time Country Music Church.  But hey, that's OK.  Norma Jean's meets Sunday's at 10:30 a.m.  It is located next to Applebee's at The God and Country Theater. The address is 1840 W. Highway 76 in Branson, Mo.  The phone number is 417-334-6806.  The pastor is Ron Boldman who had 26 years of military service.

The first hour is performance.  Here you can hear some music from Norma Jean, her band and some special guests.  I particularly enjoyed some of their singing including  "Gentleman" Jim Brown who was a very mellow fellow.  Also there was a fun piece from "O Brother, Where Art Thou" that was performed by Tim Hadler who does The Hank Williams Tribute Show.  I almost got my jug and joined in.  Great Fun.  After an hour performance and the collection of the offering by passing straw cowboy hats, it was time for the preachin' to begin.

A 30 minute service was given by Pastor Ron Boldman.   After the preachin', there was a short invitation and the people were released to the street about 12:10.

All in all, things were done in a good spirit and the ushers were at least as friendly as in other churches.  You can tell who is an usher, generally they wear cowboy hats. Some pictures of the show are posted below.

THE BRANSON SHOW CHURCH

Branson has a fairly unique occurance each Sunday.  There are a number of places where church people visiting Branson can have the best of both possible worlds.  Instead of missing church while visiting Branson, they can attend one of Branson's show churches.  Generally these services are held at local theaters and involve a music performance and a preaching service.  Two birds can be killed with one stone.  Well known performers give of their time and efforts to make this occur.  Offerings are taken to pay rent and utilities on these venues.  So people that might be hesitant to visit a local church on their vacation, visit Show Churches in Branson where they feel quite comfortable.  During the next six or seven weeks I will be visiting some of these Show Churches and will report to you what goes on there.

BACK FROM THE DEAD

It has been a while since Brokerbelle and I have published on this blog.  Much has happened.  There were family matters.  Lots of them.  There was a son away at war; personal matters; lack of travel to Branson; the great Joplin Tornado, involvement in an exciting start-up church in Joplin, major surgery, retirement, deaths of two mothers and the list goes on and on.  Finally in 2012, Brokerbelle and I moved full time to Branson.  We will try to give mouth to mouth resuscitation to The Everything Branson Blog and discuss all things Branson.
